Energy Saving Tips

Lighting can account for up to 40% of your company’s total electricity bill. Reduce this and you’ll also contribute to lower carbon emissions, a major cause of climate change.
- Always replace or remove fluorescent tubes that are not working. The ballast uses around 25% of the energy required to operate the lamp for mains frequency lighting, and around 10% for high frequency lighting. Significant amounts of energy will still be consumed even when the failed tube is not lit, so removing it is very important.
- Without regular maintenance, light levels can fall by at least 50% in 2-3 years.
- By leaving your office lighting on overnight, you could be wasting enough energy to make 1000 cups of coffee.
- Replacing existing lamps for new low energy types, savings of around 30% on the running costs can easily be achieved.
- Get in Trim, Replace blackened, flickering, dim or failed tubes with tri-phosphor coated ones. Tri-phosphor coating provides a more natural, brighter light for the whole life of the tube
- Up the frequency, If you are replacing older lighting systems, install modern high-frequency ballasts. These reduce energy use and heat output, eliminate flicker and hum, extend lamp life and allow dimming – all of which can encourage higher staff productivity.
- Get in Control, Install additional switches for selective lighting by movement sensors and daylight linked controls.
